COLLECTION STORY
A popular restaurant that was far ahead of its time, The Rose Venice, opened in 1980 and started many modern trends, including the ‘community table’ concept. With a wildly creative retail shop, a massive overflowing bakery case and hand-painted murals of giant roses on the walls, The Rose was a symbol of innovation, community, beauty and healthy, local food.
During one of my solo trips to southern CA in the early 2000’s, I ran into one of the owners, Kamal Kapur, on the street, by accident – or rather synchronicity. We became instant friends. Over the years, we became so endeared that anytime I traveled to the LA area for business, I stayed with Kamal at his house. We’d catch up over meals, go for walks and talk about business. We collected a flower essence from his backyard, Brugmansia, found in Quiet Mind, which has benefited thousands of people around the world.
This Flame Coral Tree flower essence was collected with Kamal’s permission & blessing, from a special tree outside the door of the iconic Rose, shortly after its permanent closing in 2025.
FUN FACTS
The official tree of the city of Los Angeles, Coral Tree is a strikingly beautiful deciduous tree, dropping its leaves and exhibiting brilliant red-orange flowers on the ends of its bare branches.
Also known as African Coral Tree or Flame Coral Tree, this beauty can grow over 60 feet in ideal conditions and is an extremely important supporter of biodiversity. Not only is it rich with pollen making it a haven for butterflies, birds and bees – it is also nitrogen-fixing: its roots convert nitrogen into fertilizer, making the soil more fertile for all surrounding botanicals.
In its physical form, Coral Tree has a number of traditional medicinal uses including pain relief, aiding respiratory & skin issues as well as nervous system imbalance.
