EP 152: HOLISTIC PSYCHIATRY & THE POWER OF CHOICE WITH DR. JOSEPH YI

Have you ever wondered how to taper off of a prescription med?
Have you wondered precisely which foods & supplements can boost your mood as you’re going through the taper process? (besides flower essences of course!)
Do you have any friends or family that have had issues with addiction?
Have you ever been diagnosed with a ‘disorder’ or know someone who has?

I became connected to Jo Yi through mutual friends & social media. I spent one evening listening to one of his late night Tik Tok lives and was impressed with not only his storytelling, humor, truth-telling expressive style -- but also the breadth of his life experience around working with nutrition to free his clients from all sorts of addictive substances, including ones that come with a Rx.

In this episode I talk with Dr. Joseph Yi, board-certified holistic psychiatrist. He shares his personal story, from painful experiences in med school to becoming a musician to growing his business. He talks about why he doesn’t believe in ‘disorders’, using nutrition to get off prescription meds, and the tapering process. He describes the four pillars of mental wellness, combined with a strategy to not only get rid of toxic substances and foods, but also toxic people in your life. He describes connection as the opposite to addiction and how struggle in life makes us wiser and stronger on the other side.

MORE ABOUT JO YI:

Dr. Joseph Yi is a Board-Certified Addiction Psychiatrist who specializes in Holistic Psychiatry and Detoxification. After graduation from medical school, Dr Yi went on to do his psychiatry residency at the Cooper University Hospital. It was there at the heart of Camden, NJ where he learned to treat some of the most challenging cases of psychiatric, addiction and detox patients. As a resident physician, he apprenticed under Dr. Joel Fuhrman, on nutritional therapy for mental health treatment, and worked at several dual diagnosis facilities (mental health and substance abuse).

Since starting his solo private practice in 2009, Dr Yi has helped patients throughout Bucks County, PA overcome their dependency to opiates, alcohol, and other substances through his Modern Detox Program, which provides an individualized tapering plan on an outpatient basis, as an alternative to going into an inpatient facility for treatment. He integrates motivational counseling, nutritional therapy, exercise science, yoga and spirituality.
