WE LOVE WYOMING!
Here’s a list of all of our favorite places we explored & enjoyed in the Grand Tetons & Yellowstone area:
JACKSON HOLE, WY & surrounding areas
THINGS TO EAT:
Persephone Bakery:
The Westbank is our favorite location, but they also have another location in downtown Jackson, and a place called Picnic that is a little more local/casual.
What we love on the menu: Flat White or Matcha with homemade almond milk. Cinnamon Brioche Bun. A la carte breakfast with 2 eggs over easy, maple sausage & bacon.
Pro tips: Sit outside if you want to meet cool people & dogs. If you need wifi & a place to charge your device, the Picnic location is best for working. The Westbank location doesn’t have wifi, and only a few places to plug in your device outside.
LOCAL:
Our favorite acupuncturist in Victor, Erin Borbet, recommended this place to us years ago and it’s one of our favorite places to eat dinner.
What we love on the menu: Buffalo Tartare, Oysters, Truffle Fries & Steak.
Pro tip: Make a reservation, because they’re always busy. But if you don’t have a res, just try to get a seat at the bar. It’s a bit noisy inside, but the food is totally worth it.
Healthy Being:
The best place in town for cold-pressed juice, smoothies, nut milks, acai bowls, salads, bowls, & things-on-toast. They have an amazing retail selection too! While you’re waiting in line, you will slowly but surely fill your hands with some goodies.
What we love on the menu: Mint Chip Smoothie, Acai Bowl & Longevity Juice.
Pro tip: they have a basket of blankets that you can lay out on the grass & sit! It feels so great to get your bum on the ground. Just make sure you scan for dog doo-doo first … Taylor learned this the stinky way.
Teton Thai in Teton Village:
The best, and super clean, Thai food in town!
What we love on the menu: Bok Bok Noodle Soup (2 or 3 spice), Crying Tiger NY Strip, Satay Gai
Pro-tips: Ask for no MSG in your dish when you order. If you are eating there at night, beware of mosquitos. They include a 20% gratuity in your bill, so no need to add an extra tip unless you’re feeling extra generous!
The Bird:
If you want to escape the downtown tourist scene, The Bird is a fun local bar with good burgers & wings with a great view of the mountains. They have a hilarious menu and the servers have a snappy sense of humor.
What we ordered several times on days we were out collecting flowers: a dozen medium BBQ wings & sparkling water with a splash of grapefruit juice (bring your own flower elixirs in to make it a fun, hydrating mocktail)
GROCERY / GENERAL STORES
Hungry Jacks General Store:
We lost count of how many times we stopped here for basic necessities (water, fruit, road snacks, bear spray, extra SD cards, postcards, eggs, raw milk, etc).
What we loved: Local beet juice by Bluebird Natural Living (seriously good), eggs & raw milk by Squire Farms and Whipped Vanilla Infused Grass Fed Beef Tallow Face Cream by Squire Farms (the vanilla/rosehip/orange eo one is the BEST & makes for an awesome gift for someone at home; she also makes them with ylang ylang & rose/rosemary).
Farmers Markets:
The Jackson Hole People’s Market every Wednesday afternoon (4-7pm) from May through September. Enjoy local produce, food & libations, jewelry & other fun locally made goods. Location: Center for the Arts Lawn, 240 S Glenwood St, Jackson, WY 83001
Jackson Hole Farmers Market every Saturday morning (8am-12pm) from June through September. This is a 100% food & drink ONLY market! Location: Town Square in downtown Jackson
Pearl Street Market:
A great little market in downtown Jackson to stock up on basic & well-sourced groceries.
We loved: local ribeye steak (if you’re cooking at home or #vanlife), tinted lip balms from Olio-E-Osso, fancy non-alcoholic sparkling herbal aperitif by Ghia, fun postcards
THINGS TO DO IN THE WILD:
Leigh Lake:
If you want to go swimming, Leigh Lake is the spot! Jenny Lake is where most of the tourists will go, and Leigh Lake is a bit quieter. It’s a glacial lake, so it’s suuuper refreshing, but shallower than other lakes, so the temperature of the water is more swimmable.
Pro tips: Parking can be hard in the middle of the day, so you will either want to get there first thing in the morning to claim a spot … or do it like we did ~ get there closer to 4pm when everyone starts to leave. If you bring snacks with you, make sure you put your food in a bear-proof locker when you go out to swim. Don’t forget to bring your bear spray … we saw a bear here.
Teton Pass Trail:
This is where we’ve collected 10+ flower essences in years passed, infused into some of the most powerful remedies we have. If you want to see a beautiful range of wildflowers, you will love this short hike. It’s located on the pass from Wilson to Victor.
Wild Bison at Dusk:
Most nights you can see Wild Bison crossing the 191 up near Moran. Traffic stops for them; everyone watches in awe. At 1000-2000 lbs each, their raw power is something to behold. We learned from a friend that they charge into predators, storms, tornados and even wild fires! Utterly fearless.
Sunrise at Schwabacher Landing:
If you’re a morning person & want to see an incredible sunrise on the Grand Teton mountains, this is the spot to do it. If you’re looking at the mountains, the sun will rise behind you & hit the mountains .. you will see an epic display of color & light on the mountains and the reflection in the water.
Pro tip: go at sunrise instead of sunset, otherwise, you will get eaten alive by mosquitos. If you have a camera & a tripod, this is a great timelapse opportunity. Rafting the Snake River We didn’t get a chance to do this, but it looks amazing!
HOT SPRINGS
Granite Hot Springs:
Located southeast of the park is Granite Hot Springs. Drive south towards Hoback & East towards Pinedale. The last stint of the drive is about 10 miles on a bumpy dirt road. You will be completely off grid without service. On this part of the drive, the wildflowers are insane & exquisite ~ the most we’ve ever seen anywhere in the world (in early July).
If you drive all the way down the dirt road, you will reach Granite Hot Springs. A built-out & maintained swimming pool. If you want something a bit more wild, go to the Day Park & walk to the waterfall, which has a more wild hot spring that mixes with the cold waterfall water.
Pro tip: You need cash or a check to pay to enter the swimming pool. If you are doing dispersed camping, there are a TON of spots along this road with stunningly beautiful views.
Astoria Hot Springs:
South of the park, this hot spring is right off the road (easy to get to), and built out with 5 different pools to soak in. It’s clean, quiet & beautifully maintained.
Pro tip: You need to make a reservation to soak here. If you need flexibility in your life, they let you change your reservation as many times as you need to!
HEALTH:
Acupuncture & Flower Essences
Erin Borbet in Victor/Jackson
Naturopathic Medicine / Health Coach / Flower Essences
Dr. Kayla Eckart in Jackson/Victor
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
Yellowstone is the place to explore yourself.
We don’t have any specific places we’ll tell you to go or sites you must see.
Instead, we can share an instruction of how we moved through the park:
Drive & pull over whenever you feel like it.
Swim in the river … doesn’t matter where, just jump in & swim.
Find the spots yourself ~ and find yourself through them.
In the end, it doesn’t matter where you go … because no matter what, you’ll have an amazing experience in nature.
Pro-tip: If you want to see geothermal amazements (like Fountain Paint Pot Trail, Old Faithful or Black Sand Basin), go at dusk (otherwise parking is hectic & too many people).
IN-BETWEEN YELLOWSTONE & GRAND TETONS
Flagg Pass:
Great spot to refill water, use the bathroom, fill up on gas & pop on wifi if you need it.
Dispersed Camping:
We found an amazing spot to park our Sprinter van on Grassy Creek Road > Ashton Flagg Ranch Road behind Flagg Pass …. drive until you hit the dirt road & there will be several turn outs for dispersed camping. If you’re not sure where to go, ask someone working at the gas station to explain how to get there.
Swimming in the River & Hot Springs:
Park at the Huckleberry Hot Spring Trail Head along Ashton Flagg Ranch Road & walk the trail. Jump into the river & find your way to the hot springs. Keep an eye out for orchids too! We found 2 different species here, as well as wild strawberries!
Random National Park Road Trip Tips:
- If there are a bunch of cars pulled over on the side of the road, there’s probably a wild animal. Pull over & take a look before driving through.
- If you’re allergic to grasses, bring Nettle tea or whatever allergy supplements you have.
- Rent a car with Turo! Fun, flexible & power to the people. Soooo much easier & more convenient than renting from a rental car agency [we rented 5 different cars on our trip and it was soo easy, fun & seamless]
What to bring:
- Two swim suits (to alternate, so you always have a dry one)
- Water shoes
- Pocket knife (we love Fallkniven)
- Starlink Roam if you are off-road & you need to work (or wait for a baby to be born)
