SELF-CONSCIOUS & THE ART OF DOING IT ANYWAY
Share
Katie here!
Picture this.
I'm really uncomfortable in my body – I gained 20 lbs out of the blue.
I’ve had to bump up a size in clothing because nothing I own fits.
I have an entire section in my closet of once-I-lose-weight-again clothes.
I’ve spent the better part of a year unraveling health challenges & getting countless iron IV infusions.
What would make me want to shoot a docuseries when I’m feeling shy about being on camera, much less vlog-style?

Taylor and I were taking this elixir every hour during our Wyoming trip, early summer last year.
We were there to shoot interviews for a multi-year project – a documentary film — and to support our friend in the birth of her fourth child.
The baby came waaaaay late, and as we changed our tickets and extended our stay at least 5 times, we decided on another project while we waited.
Awakened Expression made us leap outside of our comfort zones.
And into freezing cold rivers, hot springs with brain-eating amoebas, bear-laden wild mountain forests and into a sprinter van as our temporary home.
And also — in front of the cameras to shoot:
FLOWER HUNTERS
A YouTube vlog-style docuseries, bringing you along with us, while we hunt for new flower remedies.

Taylor has been working to edit all the episodes. We’re digging into the most meaningful parts of the adventure & distilling out what that means for YOU – on your path.

The truth is … I’m super embarrassed to show it to you —
Not only was I feeling uncomfortable in my body, but since we’d only planned on being in Wyoming for a few days, we were totally unprepared.

We did not expect to spend two weeks in the mountains hunting for a rare, elusive forest orchid.
We did not have the right clothing or gear (we look absolutely ridiculous, lol).
[If you have recommendations on how we can be better prepared next time, let us know.]
Much of the time we were off the grid with no cell coverage in case of emergencies – and we were alone in the wild, in some potentially hairy situations.
I think we look downright silly and naive traipsing around in the wild like that.
And – I am super vulnerable in the videos.
I show you several double chins, I make a ton of mistakes and show my true goofy self on camera.
So … I’m writing this email to get me out of my comfort zone, and make sure we don’t back out!
