PITCHER PLANT ESSENCE

PITCHER PLANT ESSENCE

Have you been experiencing...
  • Doubt or inner turmoil about who really has your back
  • Wondering who is truly a part of your tribe
  • Perceived lack of support
  • Desire to magnetize people into your life who have some staying power & loyalty
  • A need to put together a community to make bigger things happen
  • Feeling a little lost, alone or out on a limb by yourself
  • Sense that big life changes are coming but not sure what they are
  • Uneasiness about what lies ahead – no road map
  • Questioning where you belong or where your people are
  • Nervousness, watching your back, hesitation
  • The UNKNOWN elements of your life are scaring the bejeezus out of you …

If these experiences resonate with you, you're likely drawn to the Pitcher Plant.

WHAT IT REVEALS

If you’re drawn to the Pitcher Plant, you may have recently sensed that life has some big changes in store for you, but not be sure exactly what those changes may be. You might feel a sense of spinning, lack of stability or fear or the unknown. You may be feeling all alone out there in a big world, or you may wonder who has your back & where exactly is your place. You may be wanting to attract new people, or a different kind of community or relationships into your life. You may have loved ones coming and going, entering or leaving your life.

Perhaps you’re considering travel, moving, changing careers, life paths or are feeling simply an internal rumble that things are changing! You may have a sense of being a little lost or uneasy about what lies ahead, because there is no road map. You may feel a little nervous about the future, about big life changes. You may have a sense that you need to be prepared for anything. You might feel like you need to harness up your parachute, make a jump out of a jet speeding at hundreds of miles an hour … with no certainty about where you’re jumping!

WHAT IT CATALYZES

The Pitcher Plant magnifies an unshakeable trust in ourselves. It dissolves any fear around the unknown, settles our nerves and amplifies a sense of confidence. It cuts through hesitation and helps us grab the parachute and make the jump out of the speeding jet – despite being unsure where we’re going. We know that as our path reveals itself, we feel equipped and ready for anything. We have a sense that we have what it takes, even though we don’t know what’s coming.

Pitcher Plant encourages a sense that we have our own backs. This attracts other people around us who also have our backs. We learn to develop trust in the people from our communities. We feel a sense of awe, admiration and respect for the people around us and their unique talents that might be different from ours. We have a growing sense of mutual support. We can surrender and let go … even at 100mph careening through space, because we trust ourselves. We trust the people we’ve chosen to accompany us. Or we trust in our capacity to uplevel our relationships if necessary. We clarify: who is really there for us and who is not?

We feel like we can dive into the wild unknown, and we’re magnetizing others to be on our life’s team. We can take bigger risks and act without hesitation in our lives because we feel a wilder sense of support.

FUN FACTS

The Pitcher Plant is a carnivorous botanical that grows in bogs & nutrient-poor soils, supplementing its diet through digestive enzymes from prey for essential nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus.

Both the Pitcher Plants' color & sweet nectar help to attract their prey (insects, frogs & even sometimes small rodents) to the ‘pitcher’s’ rim, which is coated with a slippery fluid that causes the prey to lose their footing and fall inside!

Many Pitcher Plants, like the one we collected, have a ‘lid’ to prevent rainwater from diluting the digestive fluid inside, which are essential to their survival. This specific variation of Pitcher Plant’s Latin name, Sarracenia alata, refers to the wing or lid at the front of the pitcher.

The pitcher itself is the leaf of the plant, and the flowers sprout separately from the base. The plant is also nicknamed “Dumbwatch,” a reference to the flowers which resemble a watch without the hands. The Pitcher Plant’s roots are flood & fire-tolerant, allowing it to survive and thrive in wetland habitats.

The tall & numerous leaves on a thriving Pitcher Plant – along with their discreet hunting capabilities & hardiness – give an intimidating sense of a quiet yet powerful army.

COLLECTION STORY

When we were in South Carolina for our Ripple the Void Flowerlounge Tour, we ended the trip with a day of flower hunting! I usually go flower hunting alone or with one other person, but this time it was so sweet to spend the afternoon with the Flowerlounge team looking for obscure flowers in the marshy forest.

Justin grew up in South Carolina, so he knew how to traverse the wetland like a natural. He actually had to collect this Pitcher Plant for me! He came prepared with galoshes, ready to brave any possible wildlife.

Despite being extremely hot & sweaty, with mosquitos & chiggers abound, everyone was super focused & engaged. And everyone had similar impressions & experiences of the Pitcher Plant.
