COLLECTION STORY
After two days and 15 hours of hiking through the jungle near Panchase, Nepal (and shooting Season 2 of Flower Hunters), we discovered Bulbophyllum roseopictum.
This is the last orchid we collected together, and it reflected a quality different from the overarching theme of other 9 orchid essences we collected close-by.

FUN FACTS
Bulbophyllum roseopictum, also known as Rose-Spotted Bulb Leaf Orchid, is native to the Eastern Himalayas, Southeast Asia & China. It grows in the clouds, at elevations from 900-2,700 meters, with tiny but strikingly beautiful blooms.
It is an epiphytic orchid, meaning it grows on another plant, usually a tree – but is not parasitic. This orchid draws all of its moisture, nutrients & light on its own, while using another structure as a physical anchor. In a cool, shaded and humid mountain forest, the Roseopictum orchid can grow just as happily on a rock as a tree!
From its roots, Bulbophyllum roseopictum cascades downwards with bulbs & flowers spiraling around the stem at precise, even intervals. At the center of each bloom, a small pandurate or ‘guitar-shaped’ petal hangs down as a landing platform for pollinators. When they land, this petal allows the flower to respond to their weight – shifting the insect towards the pollen to support the pollination process.
