6 METHODS FOR NATURAL CALM + RELAXATION

Lately, I have found myself feeling anxious, stressed, and ‘edgy’. I’ve been trying out different ways of naturally calming myself and creating a relaxing environment for myself + my family ~ so I wanted to share a few of my methods that have worked for me, with you!

Meditate – Don’t Medicate!

Calm is an inside job – take time out of your day to dedicate 15-20 minutes to yourself and reflect on your day – give yourself the credit you deserve!
– Meditation allows you to challenge and restructure any negative feelings that you may have had that day
– De-clutter your mind and leave room for only the things that bring joy + peace ​to your life

Go to bed EARLY!

Getting a good night’s rest is one of the best ways to shut your engines down and get a fresh perspective. If you have an iPhone, there is a sweet little app called clock – yep, it’s on every iPhone – and it has a feature that even allows you to set an alarm for your bedtime!

A study done at the Department of Psychology at Binghamton University shows that having an earlier bedtime leads to more REM (rapid eye movement) sleep and it can greatly reduce repetitive negative thoughts that are associated with getting less/not as good quality sleep ~ these negative thoughts can greatly increase feelings of stress + anxiousness.

Get your Lavender on!

I don’t know about you, but I love ​the smell of lavender. It’s my go-to for everything! There are so many benefits of using lavender in so many different forms ~ especially for feelings of stress/unease. Here are a couple of ways the we like to get our lavender on:

Essential Oils:​ essential oils and diffusers have become so trendy lately, but putting essential oils in a diffuser isn’t the only way to use them!

You can put 2-3 drops of lavender in your hands, rub them together, put your hands around your nose and inhale deeeeeeep – this is allowing the lavender to enter your body and get to your Amygdala glands (​responsible for your emotions, fight/flight responses + memory).​ Once you have had a few good sniffs from your hands, rub the oil on your temples, wrists, and bottoms of your feet for an almost immediate feeling of relaxation.

PRO TIP: IF you love lavender in your diffuser as much as I do, here is a recipe that I use in my diffuser right before bed for the best sleep:

4-5 drops of lavender oil
2-3 drops rose oil
2-3 drops of Frankincense oil
Fill with water + sleep!

Lavender + Sage Smudge Stick: I love to smudge my house ~ I’m a firm believer in smudging my house at least every 2-3 months to keep out the bad energy that might be brought or created in our home. And I have noticed that once I am done smudging the house, the entire house just feels more calm + peaceful. Inner Peace: There’s lavender in our Inner Peace formula, too! Spray your pillow + sheets before bed with the Aura Mist, rub on your wrists or temples {like above} with the Anointing Oil or use a few pumps of the Balancing Serum in a relaxing bath.

Speaking of baths, take one!

Here’s my favorite Relaxing Detox Bath recipe:

– 2.5 cups Epsom salt with Lavender Oil (available at Sprouts or Walgreens)
– 1.5 cups Apple Cider Vinegar
– 1.5 cups Bentonite Clay (found in Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay)
Fill the remainder of your bath up with water {hot as you can stand}, add your body, and soak for at least 20 minutes!
