WHAT I'M LEARNING FROM LISTENING

April 09, 2018

There are soooooo many new and inspiring things happening over here in Lotus Land. I can’t wait to share them all with you over the next few months, but I’ll start with just one.

I cannot believe how much I have been learning from our Flowerlounge Podcast!

A seemingly simple project … buying a microphone, setting up a little quiet space in one of our storage areas (yep, no fancy sound proof room here - just a corner of a storage space) and reaching out to folks to have profound or educational conversations.

This is very much a love project. Not a money maker. It’s a time and place where I get to create my own little world, curating beautiful + rare people and sharing their message. And I am learning so much from listening. Really listening.

Before every podcast, we close our eyes and do a 30-second meditation together. Then I ask that our highest selves connect on any level necessary, so that we may tap into what needs to be said for the listeners.

This is a sacred undertaking for me: I want every episode to be eye-opening.

The other day I was interviewing KP Khalsa, who is the foremost Ayurvedic doctor in the U.S. He has a tremendous wealth of experience with herbs! Ever sipped on Yogi Tea? Yup - those are his yummy formulations! I love his sense of humor and his very real understanding of what the average person these days is going through.

And something odd + magical happened during this episode.

I knew KP specialized in different kinds of brain imbalances, and I had wanted to ask him about headaches and migraines, but was running out of time, so scratched it.

In promptly TWO minutes I started to feel a numbness and tingling in the fingers of my left hand, something that I used to feel in high school or college when I was about to get a migraine. The last migraine I’d had was about 10 years ago, and so I was really surprised at the sensation and the timing of it. I actually thought I was getting one. My mind instantly started asking, “What’s happening? What major stress do I have right now?” And I couldn’t think of anything.

So … of course I took it as meaningful and asked KP about migraines. As soon as I asked, the numbness went away. I figured there must be a listener out there who really needed this information.

By the way, an antidote I wish I would’ve known in my younger years: if you feel a migraine coming on, stir 2 Tablespoons of ginger powder into hot water and drink it down. This will stop the migraine from even coming on. If you feel it rearing its head four hours later again, drink another ginger tea and you’re golden.

I am learning so much from the folks I am interviewing and I am humbled by the listeners. We have listeners in every state of the U.S. and in 27 countries around the world!

I am truly honored that so many people would tune in and I am thrilled to have such high caliber guests, whose wisdom I want to shout from the mountaintops.
