We got a request from one of our favorite New Yorkers in our community to share some advice about what to do for air pollution, in response to the Canadian wildfire smoke that blanketed her entire city!

She also shared that it was triggering people's traumas around 9/11 & the last few years.

So I sat down with Alan, LOTUSWEI-trained Acupuncturist at the SAN Center, and shot a quick video to share some tips on what to do if you’re experiencing this crazy smoke pollution:

And even if you’re not – most of the tips apply to anytime you’re wanting to activate your body’s ability to detox naturally & gently.

1. You must remember this one thing:

Your body is magic & intelligent. It can do anything. It can handle any sort of particulate in the air – your wise body will detox itself over time.

2. Take an Epsom salt detox bath.

Dissolve 2 cups of Epsom salts & 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide in a hot bath. Add 9 drops of your favorite flower elixir or balancing serum (or both!) to the bath. After 20 minutes get out and wrap up in a sheet or blanket and sweat for 15 more minutes. If you want to take it to the next level, you can also drink some ginger tea, which is a wonderful physical detox.

3. Poop … & learn how to poop like a master.

If you eat every day, you should shit every day – even if your body doesn't necessarily feel the inclination or the urge. Proper elimination is so important because toxic waste & gas get stuck in the body … and this is how we get it out.

I thought I knew how to poop my whole life … until I got some really special instructions from a poop master (seriously).

4. Sleep without dreaming.

Deep sleep is the one of the best ways to support your body when it’s working overtime to flush your system of foreign energies or substances. We need sleep in order for our immune system to function optimally. For the deepest sleep, it’s important to eliminate mental chatter before you fall asleep to prevent mindless dreaming that uses up your precious energy. 5. Drink water to flush your system.

Try to drink 2-3 liters of water a day. If you’re like me & have a hard time drinking enough water, add flower elixirs& electrolytes (we love LMNT). I highly recommend adding Sacred Body to your water, as it has the best flower essences for stimulating swift detoxification.

6. Steam your beautiful face!

If you're having a hard time breathing, make yourself a facial steam. You can boil hot water or use an essential oil diffuser. Dump some of the mist into the water, put a towel over your head, and lean over so it can actually evaporate up into your face. Breathe it all in! If you use Sacred Body Mist, it will smell like intoxicating Night-Blooming Jasmine – yum!

7. Mask or no mask?

If you're going to wear a mask, which Alan would actually recommend in cases of high environmental pollution, an N95 mask would be most useful in this situation. If you’re going to wear one, spray it with Sacred Body, Radiant Energy or Joy Juice!

8. Sweat!

Sit in an infrared sauna if you can! Or if you like going to an indoor gym, you could also get your sweat on there!

9. Dry brush your skin.

Activate lymphatic drainage & stimulate blood circulation with dry brushing to help detoxify your entire body. Learn more about dry brushing here.

10. Clean up your personal care & cleaning products.

If you use fabric softeners, personal care products with artificial fragrances, or cleaning products with endocrine-disrupting chemicals, the daily use of chemicals on or around your body become more toxic than outdoor air pollution. Take a look at the ingredients in all of your personal care & cleaning products to reduce your overall toxic load.
