THE TRUTH ABOUT HEAVY METALS IN CHOCOLATE

THE TRUTH ABOUT HEAVY METALS IN CHOCOLATE

Lisa here from Wei of Chocolate!

We’ve had a number of people asking us lately about heavy metals in chocolate.

This is a topic that’s becoming increasingly important as more & more people want to know what’s really inside the foods they love.

The truth is

Heavy metals like lead, cadmium and arsenic can naturally occur in the soil where cocoa grows, especially in volcanic regions. The cocoa plants absorb some of these metals from the earth.

Sometimes, additional contamination can also happen during processing & transport.

The concern is that even small amounts of these metals in a variety of foods we consume can accumulate in the body over time & potentially impact health.

Here’s the good news:

We recently tested Wei of Chocolate for heavy metals, and it passed with flying colors!

  • Arsenic: Practically non-existent, less than 0.01 parts per million (ppm). That’s like finding a needle in a haystack, but much, much smaller.
  • Lead: Super low at 0.013 ppm, way below the FDA’s guidelines. Like a teeny, tiny speck in a vast field.
  • Cadmium: Only 0.13 ppm, also well below recommended limits. Think of it as a single grain of sand on a wide beach.

Some people have been surprised to find that big-name natural chocolate brands have had levels of metals up to 40 times higher than what we found in Wei of Chocolate.

We want to be clear: heavy metals in chocolate are a real thing.

Understanding where they come from – and choosing brands that prioritize safety – is important.

We care deeply about the quality of our chocolate, and about YOU!

We hope you can savor Wei of Chocolate with confidence, knowing it’s sourced & made with great care – and a deep respect for your health & happiness.

Love & dark chocolate,
Lisa Reinhardt
