If you’re attracted to Cacao flower (Theobroma Cacao), you may be burning the candle at both ends or depriving yourself in some way. You may be under-nourished and in a constant state of depletion or operating at half capacity. You may feel fatigued, yet not allow yourself to get enough sleep or take a nap. You might be hungry, but instead of eating proper meals with protein and a variety of vegetables, you might find yourself eating some weird snacks or just getting by on something that’s easy.
However, we cannot thrive when we’re constantly seeking balance. A physical body that is deficient in minerals and vitamins is continually in a state of seeking what it’s missing. It searches for the right foods, has cravings, and is in a perpetual state of lack.
Alternatively, you may not know what you want -- or be subconsciously avoidant of really going after what you want. You may put everyone else's needs as priority over your own needs or desires. You may worry about being 'selfish' if you do what's best for you, or follow your heart with conviction.
Cacao flower elixir helps us make our basic needs a priority so that we can explore what it feels like to thrive and expand to the next level. Once we’re nourished, we have unlimited stores of creativity. Our cup is full and we’re able to give, create and thrive effortlessly.
When our bodies operate replete with minerals and vitamins -- we feel whole, complete and able take bigger risks and undergo greater strides of responsibility and action, because it is operating out of abundance and holistic balance. We’re able to allow nourishment, support and abundance. When we allow ourselves to meet our needs -- we feel overflowing, abundant, beautiful, exotic.
We also have a greater capacity to honor what our greatest flourishing might look like. We recognize that we have direct access to support, stability, strength, and a network. We have the capacity to make things happen in a way that feels magical, because we feel so supported.
We can allow ourselves to meet our needs consistently, like eating, drinking, sleeping, resting, taking breaks, getting fresh air - in a consistent way that fits with the rhythms and cycles of our bodies in a way that allows us to be super prolific and insightful. We may surprise ourselves with what comes out of our mouths or what we’re able to create when we’re consistently nourished and supported.
Among our needs for survival, we also have desires and convictions around what we want to accomplish or create. Rather then repress or avoid them because they rock our internal boat, we can finally turn toward them, recognizing, again, that we are our top priority. Our wishes and desires are important, valuable and worthy -- they are a selfless act of offering a beautiful expression of ourselves to the world.
When we feel taken care of, looked after and secure, we can let loose and be ourselves. Cacao elixir is like a fertilizer that helps us deepen into greater authenticity. We become more willing to be exposed to what’s on the inside; we can dive into our own sense of curiosity, wonder and action. Feeling at ease facilitates transformation, and Cacao inspires spontaneous self-discovery of our truest selves.
Many people know about the incredible health benefits of cacao and dark chocolate. I recorded an entire podcast with the founder of our sister company, Lisa Reinhardt, of Wei of Chocolate, and she talked about myriad benefits for: heart, circulation, pregnancy, skin, cholesterol, mood and more. If you need any more excuses to eat dark chocolate (she explains the difference between dark & milk), listen here.
Throughout my travels through Costa Rica, I saw many cacao trees along the way. Taylor and I toured a small, family-run cacao farm in northern Costa Rica and learned about the entire process of growing, harvesting, fermenting cacao.

Aside from cacao being one of my favorite fruits, the flower is one of the most exotic I’ve seen! Its shape is on the level of a passionflower, yet it literally grows right out from the trunk of the cacao tree -- I’ve never seen any flower do that before in quite the same fashion. When you look at a blooming cacao tree, you see hundreds of little white flowers popping right out of the trunk and big branches -- it’s wild!
The flowers, of course, later transform into the fruit: cacao pods, which are collected and broken open, so the beans can be dried, fermented, ground and later used to make chocolate! An otherworldly fruit that comes from an otherworldly flower! For this elixir, I collected the Cacao flower in southeast Asia, in Singapore.
