LIFESTYLE CHANGE VS DIETING

May 5, 2017

When my no-sugar-no-dairy diet becomes a topic of conversation, people have a lot of questions!

How did I make the transition so quickly?

What did I do that made my “diet” successful?

There’s one thing I stress to EVERYONE that comes to me for advice. It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change. There’s a biiiiiig difference between those two. A diet is a restriction that lasts for a certain amount of time or until your weight goal is achieved. It’s temporary + makes you feel like you’re depriving yourself from everything you want.  A lifestyle change is a long-term choice that consists of making changes in order to improve your life long health + longevity.

I don’t think I’ve ever used the term diet. Even in high school when I was working towards being as physically fit as I could be, I simply altered my meals a little bit + made physical activity a bigger part of my daily routine. Dieting has always held a negative connotation in my mind.

I didn’t just wake up one day + decide to cut everything out. I slowly made the changes + educated myself on what my body needs. When you carry knowledge of what’s good + bad for your body, it’s easier to make these kinds of changes. Would you intentionally do something to someone if you knew it was bad? No. So you shouldn’t do it to yourself either! It has to be a choice that you’ve made based on your opinions and knowledge alone. I can go on to tell you that you should make the change because it’s better for your health. That the harmful ingredients you’re consuming are destroying your body. However, it won’t make a difference. You have to come to that decision for it to mean something. You have to decide to make the change!

If there’s one major tip I have ~ don’t count calories. This approach is one of the worst things you can do for your mind + body. It involves a lot of restriction, doesn’t consider what nutrients you are putting into your body + isn’t as accurate as everyone claims it to be. Not all calories are created equal. Nutrient rich foods like leafy greens, avocados + nuts fill you up + fuel you for a long period of time. They also help your body work to burn fat. Processed foods, on the other hand, prompt your body to store fat + typically induce overeating due to their lack of nutrients + satisfaction. It’s very possible to lose weight from this method, but doesn’t benefit your overall health. I am calorie conscious. I know how much I’m putting in my body with what I eat, but I don’t keep track of it throughout the day.

In the end, the quality of ingredients of what you are eating is the most important aspect of your diet. Make long-term changes to help you be your best self. Do research. Figure out what works + doesn’t work with your body. Ditch the word diet + change your lifestyle! Your long term health is more important than any short term goal.

Bravo for your decision to eliminate dairy from your diet!. Most people think cows give milk automatically but that is not the case. They are made to stay in a state of constantly being pregnant so they give milk. They are inseminated (raped) to be made pregnant and then humans take their milk which was meant for their babies. So in essence, people are drinking the milk from a pregnant cow which is full of estrogens, antibiotics, increased levels of IGF,
and scientific documentation that it is linked to breast and prostate cancer. But more than that,
it is an injustice to the female species. Cows milk is for baby calves to grown into 300 pound cows.
